Who is ISAB?
The International Soy Advisory Board was set up in 1997 and brings together leading scientists, doctors and nutritionists from around the world to review the latest research into soy and phytoestrogens and to advise on the use of soy in fostering good health and nutrition.
Convened by Sanitarium Health Food Company, membership of the International Soy Advisory Board includes:
Professor David Jenkins, a Physician and Professor of Nutritional Sciences and Medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada. Considered to be one of the world's leading nutritional scientists, Professor Jenkins is recognised as the 'father of the Glycaemic Index' and for his research on dietary fibre and carbohydrates with respect to diabetes, cardiovascular and gastro-intestinal health.
Professor Kenneth Setchell, a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Director of Clinical Mass Spectrometry at the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, USA. Professor Setchell is credited with the discovery of the first mammalian dietary oestrogens, the proposal that these would convey health benefits, and recognised as one of the foremost authorities on phytoestrogens in the world.
Professor James Anderson, a Professor of Medicine and Clinical Nutrition at the University of Kentucky, USA. As a practising physician with strong research interests in diabetes, lipids and obesity, Professor Anderson's findings were responsible for the 'oat bran craze' and the recognition that soy protein can lower cholesterol in humans.
Ms Sue Radd, Consultant Nutritionist and Accredited Practising Dietitian operates a busy clinical practice in Sydney. Being recognised as a leading nutritionist on soy, Ms Radd advises consumers, the media, health professionals and the food industry on the health benefits of including soy in the diet.
